Her departure official, it's not necessarily like Jennifer Lopez has a vested interest in the next panel of "American Idol" judges. But she knows this: Aretha Franklin, who's publicly said she wants one of the two available gigs, would make a fine replacement. Metropolis gets all the luck. That bustling city gets an all-powerful alien that's on call day or night. Gotham City? Gotham gets a billionaire in a costume who doesn't often work before sundown. I have to think this is along the lines of what NWA would've said in this sorry state of affairs.

Katherine Jackson was initially reported missing by a family member who claimed her late son Michael's three children hadn't spoken with her in a week. Now, word has come down from other family members that she's in fact resting comfortably at a doctor's insistence. Michael's 14-year-old daughter Paris isn't convinced that means she's safe.

After a second controlled detonation, Aurora, Colo. police report that they've successfully cleared "The Dark Knight Rises" shooting suspect James E. Holmes' apartment of more than 60 total explosives. According to Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates, "Make no mistake, this apartment was designed to kill whoever entered it."
