Balfour Convicted In Hudson Family Slayings

A Chicago jury Friday afternoon convicted William Balfour, 31, of three first-degree murder counts in the slaying of Jennifer Hudson's family, Reuters reports. Balfour now faces a mandatory life prison sentence. The prosecution maintained that he went into a rage when his estranged wife, Jennifer's sister Julia, wouldn't take him back. The defense countered that the slayings were the doing of crack dealers from Chicago's South Side targeting Jason Hudson, Jennifer's slain brother.

A Moroccan rapper finds himself awaiting a prison sentence over his lyrics. Mouad Belghouat was convicted Friday of insulting national security services both with his lyrics and alleged doctored photos posted online with a song. After an altercation Monday between supporters of Belghouat and police, Belghouat's defense withdrew. Friday, they weren't allowed a closing argument.

Shows like this rarely go exactly what one could call "well." Lifetime has given the OK to a 10-episode docu-series chronicling the mourning of Whitney Houston's family. It's led by Houston's former sister-in-law and manager, who had reportedly been working on such a show for years. One focus could now become Houston's daughter dealing with addiction.

UPDATED: NBC Renews 'Parks & Recreation', 'Community' And Others

That leaves everything nearly set. "Parks & Recreation" and "Up All Night" have both been given NBC's official go-ahead for next season. "Community" has also been given a half-season order for a fourth round, matching the number of episodes "30 Rock" will get to close out the series. That still leaves "Whitney" and "The Office" with undecided fates.

Three Major Names Re-Sign With 'The Office'

That's three down, one to go. With John Krasinski, Ed Helms and Jenna Fischer reportedly having new "The Office" deals in place just awaiting signing, the series looks safe for another season. But that doesn't resolve every question. Writer, performer and executive producer Mindy Kaling is bolting for FOX. Rainn Wilson looks headed out midway into next season along with showrunner Paul Lieberstein to focus on their Dwight Schrute spin-off. And finally, B.J. Novak has yet to sign a new deal, with the same responsibilities as Kaling.
