'Ice Road Truckers' Returns Soon, Promises 'Twice the Ice'

One of History channel's shows that isn't about WWII returns with a brand-new season just a couple of weeks. That's right, folks: it's ice road truckin' time. Season five of "Ice Road Truckers" will hit History on Sunday, June 5th. The show quickly found a loyal fan base when it premiered back in 2007, for reasons only they could tell you. Is it the constant threat of a fiery death for the truckers?

Now an action star once again, Vin Diesel is going back to what previously ruined his reputation: a kid's film. MGM has Diesel starring in and producing "The Machine," a new movie with a fairly familiar premise. The screenplay, by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant ("The Pacifier," "Night at the Museum"), tells the story of a human-like machine (Diesel), built by the government twenty years ago and soon after shut down, which is found by a kid who reactivates and befriends it.

The Forbes Celebrity 100 List came out this week, and it looks like the soon-to-retire Queen of Daytime TV Oprah Winfrey has been dethroned in her position as the most powerful celebrity in the entertainment world by Lady Gaga. You'd thinking kicking it up a notch from TV host and publishing magnate to buying your own damn network would keep you in the top spot, but the times they are a changin'.

I'm so pleased that "Parks and Recreation" has become a certified, if rather niche, success. After a very rocky first season, the show blew the doors off at the start of the second and never let up. I just had a hard time convincing people that it had become a good show. As the third season of the show comes to a close, series co-creator Mike Schur has ten little hints of what to expect to whet our appetite.

ABC Family is rolling out a new one-hour scripted drama for the summer months. "Switched at Birth" follows the lives of two teenage girls who were given to the wrong parents as babies in the hospital. Growing up, the two girls could not have had different upbringings. One of them, Daphne Vasquez, lost her hearing as a young girl due to meningitis and was raised in a working class home by a single mother.
