Did 'Lord of the Rings' director Peter Jackson and his partner (producer Fran Walsh) secretly bankroll the legal defense that set The West Memphis Three free? If a story by Deadline's Nikki Finke is true, the answer is yes. According to Finke, the couple "have 'played a leading role' financially and legally behind seven years of efforts to get justice for Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley Jr."

As we reported yesterday, the West Memphis 3, a group of teenagers convicted for the brutal murders of three young boys in West Memphis, Arkansas, may be about to be set free from jail after 17 years. Today, more details are emerging about how the deal will shape up, and it looks like all three may now be set free.

So, last week we saw Deena continue, unsuccessfully, to try to sleep with Pauly, Stich unsuccessfully try to sleep with Snooki, and Sammi very unsuccessfully try to get back together with Ronnie. Three bullets dodged! The gang deals with a slew of stalkers, Deena tries lean cuisine and lesbianism, and Vinny and Pauly go "twinning." Read the episode recap here.

There are many ways to describe Sarah Silverman, but "soft-spoken" is not one of them. So when news broke that Silverman had sold the pilot episode of her new series to NBC, that got me wondering: can she make it on network TV? There's no question of the level of talent here, but it's clear that from the Holocaust to the inappropriately sexual, nothing is off-limits for Silverman.

Pop singers cross over into acting all the time: just look at Jennifer Lopez or Beyonce. But how many opera singers do you know who can hold their own in a comedy? Classical singer Josh Groban is about to make another big guest appearance on a major network TV show, and this time he's headed to Scranton, Pennsylvania for a visit to "The Office."

"True Blood" star Joe Manganiello often finds himself without a shirt as he plays werewolf Alcide on the HBO show, and viewers of the female persuasion usually have no complaints in the matter. But you might be able to see Manganiello even more naked than usual soon, as he takes on the role of a stripper in his upcoming film "Magic Mike."

Just about everything we've heard or seen so far surrounding the "The Muppets" has been just plain terrific. The promos have been awesome, the posters have been cool, and the new soundtrack even features a woka woka version of "The Rainbow Connection" by the bona fide geeks from Weezer! A tribute album was released August 23rd and NPR has been kind enough to stream the whole album. Listen to it here!

Discovery has a unique gift: their slate of reality shows are addictively entertaining, but they still make you do all that learnin' stuff that I keep hearing about. I can't resist a good episode of "Mythbusters" or "Dirty Jobs," and new shows like "Weed Wars" only make the channel's lineup that much more appealing.
