In Supergirl season 3 episode 5 entitled "Damage," the city of National City is under attack by a mysterious new threat, which leaves the city's citizens in a state of panic. Meanwhile, Samantha (Odette Annable) is continuing to struggle with her newfound abilities and has a tough time keeping them a secret from her daughter.
As the episode begins, we see that there has been a massive explosion in the city, which has caused widespread damage. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) arrives on the scene to help, but it quickly becomes apparent that this is not an ordinary explosion. Something or someone has caused an incredible amount of damage, but no one knows who or what is responsible.
While Supergirl is dealing with the aftermath of the explosion, Samantha is at work when she suddenly experiences a blackout. She later discovers that during this blackout, she flew into the air and came crashing back down to the ground. Samantha is understandably fearful of what this means and confides in Lena (Katie McGrath) about her concerns. Lena is sympathetic and promises to help Samantha in any way she can.
As the episode progresses, we see that the cause of the explosion is a powerful and dangerous villain named Psi (Yael Grobglas). Psi has the ability to manipulate people's minds, causing them to experience their greatest fears and phobias. She uses this power to cause chaos and destruction in National City, all while remaining hidden from Supergirl's radar.
Supergirl is determined to stop Psi, but she struggles to find her. Even with her powers of flight and super strength, Supergirl is unable to locate Psi, who is seemingly able to disappear at will. Meanwhile, James (Mehcad Brooks) is continuing to investigate Lena's involvement in the L Corp scandal. He is determined to uncover the truth, even if it means putting Lena's friendship with Kara (Melissa Benoist) in jeopardy.
As the episode reaches its climax, Supergirl finally confronts Psi, but the villain proves to be a formidable opponent. She is able to manipulate Supergirl's mind, causing her to experience her own greatest fears. This leaves Supergirl vulnerable and powerless, and she is unable to stop Psi from causing further destruction.
The episode comes to a close with Supergirl and Samantha teaming up to stop Psi once and for all. With Samantha's newfound abilities, she is able to counter Psi's mind control, and the two are able to band together to bring a stop to Psi's reign of terror. The city of National City is saved once again, and all seems to be back to normal. However, as always in the world of Supergirl, there are sure to be more challenges and villains waiting in the wings.
Overall, Supergirl season 3 episode 5 is a thrilling and action-packed installment of the series. The episode is filled with suspense, as the city of National City is under threat from a powerful and dangerous new villain. Meanwhile, the ongoing drama between Lena and James adds an extra layer of intrigue and complexity to the episode.
