Supergirl is a television show that premiered on The CW in 2015 and ran through 2021. It is a superhero drama based on the DC Comics character of the same name, and it follows the adventures of Kara Danvers, a.k.a. Supergirl, as she seeks to protect National City and the world from various threats.

Melissa Benoist plays the lead character, Kara Danvers, who is Superman's cousin and was sent to Earth as a child to protect her from the destruction of their home planet, Krypton. Kara is an employee at CatCo Worldwide Media, a media conglomerate owned by Cat Grant, played by Calista Flockhart. Despite her powers and abilities, Kara struggles with her identity and her place in the world, and she initially keeps her alter-ego a secret.

Chyler Leigh plays Kara's adoptive sister, Alex Danvers, who is a doctor and also works for the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), a government agency that tracks alien threats. Alex is a key character in the show and has a complex relationship with Kara as she learns about her true identity and becomes an ally in her fight against evil.

Other notable cast members include Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Kara's friend and later love interest; David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, the director of the DEO and later revealed to be the Martian Manhunter; and Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer, a detective with the National City Police Department and Alex's girlfriend.

There are also several guest stars throughout the series, including Helen Slater and Dean Cain, who both played Superman and Supergirl in previous films and TV shows, respectively. Laura Benanti plays Kara's birth mother, Alura Zor-El, in flashbacks and later as a hologram. Chris Wood joins the show in later seasons as Mon-El, a time-displaced prince from Daxam who becomes Kara's love interest.

The show tackles various themes throughout its run, including identity, family, love, acceptance, and the fight against injustice. Supergirl uses her abilities to stop various villains, including the Kryptonian war criminal General Zod, the evil AI known as Indigo, and the Worldkiller Reign. The show also introduces several other notable DC Comics characters, including Lena Luthor, played by Katie McGrath, and Manchester Black, played by David Ajala.

Supergirl was praised for its diverse and inclusive cast, its strong female characters, and its handling of topical issues such as immigration and social justice. The show was also known for its impressive visual effects, which brought Supergirl's powers to life on screen. While it faced some criticism for its pacing and storylines in later seasons, it remains a beloved addition to The CW's superhero lineup and a favorite among fans of the genre.

Overall, Supergirl is an action-packed and emotionally resonant show that explores what it means to be a hero and to stand up for what is right. With a talented cast and a compelling story, it is a must-watch for fans of superheroes and sci-fi.

Supergirl is a series that ran for 6 seasons (126 episodes) between October 26, 2015 and on The CW
