Kara Danvers, aka Supergirl, is back in action in the second episode of season 3. Titled "Triggers," the episode sees Kara struggling with her own fears and insecurities while also dealing with a new villain on the Central City scene.
As the episode begins, we find Kara still reeling from her recent breakup with Mon-El and feeling overwhelmed by the many responsibilities she carries as both a reporter and a superhero. She confides in her sister Alex, who encourages her to seek help when she feels like she can't handle things on her own. This becomes especially important later in the episode when Kara realizes that her fear of losing people she loves is causing her powers to malfunction.
Meanwhile, a new threat emerges in the form of Psi, a metahuman with the ability to manipulate people's fears. Initially, Psi is just a minor nuisance, using her powers to rob banks and cause chaos in the city. But as her powers grow stronger, she poses a serious threat to both Supergirl and the citizens of Central City.
The tension ramps up as Supergirl and Psi engage in a series of battles, with each one revealing more about the underlying psychology of both characters. As Supergirl struggles to contain her fear and keep Psi from running rampant over the city, Psi's backstory is slowly revealed through a series of flashbacks.
As the episode progresses, it becomes clear that Psi is seeking revenge for a past trauma that left her deeply scarred. Though her tactics are extreme, her motivations are understandable, and the viewer is left wondering whether there might have been another way to help her heal instead of resorting to violence.
Throughout it all, Kara is struggling to confront her own fears and find a way to overcome them. She seeks the advice of others, such as her friend and mentor Cat Grant, who encourages her to be vulnerable and open with those around her. This leads to some poignant moments of reflection as Kara grapples with what it means to be a hero in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges.
In the end, Supergirl manages to defeat Psi and save the day. But the real victory is in Kara's ability to confront her own fears and find the strength to keep going, even when it feels like everything is falling apart. This sets up the rest of the season to explore even deeper issues of identity, fear, and self-discovery.
