Supergirl season 2 episode 9, titled "Supergirl Lives," follows Kara Danvers, also known as Supergirl, as she investigates the disappearance of an alien girl named Izzy. The episode begins with Supergirl and Mon-El on a mission to stop a group of robbers. During the mission, Mon-El gets hurt, and Supergirl realizes that he is not trained well enough to be her partner.
Meanwhile, Cat Grant has returned to National City and offers Kara a job at her media company, which she considers taking. However, her attention is diverted when she learns from James and Winn that Izzy, a girl they met at an alien bar, has gone missing. Supergirl decides to investigate, but loses communication with the DEO due to interference from a powerful energy source.
Supergirl and Mon-El track the energy source to an alien planet, where they discover that a woman named Roulette is holding Izzy and other aliens captive in a fighting ring. Unable to use her powers, Supergirl is forced to fight in the ring herself in order to save Izzy and the others.
During the fight, Supergirl learns that the energy source on the planet is being used to power a machine that is keeping a portal open, which is how Roulette is able to bring in new fighters. Inside the portal, Supergirl discovers a planet that is being destroyed by a red sun, which is preventing her from using her powers. There, she encounters a man named Marcus, who is trying to save his daughter from the dying planet.
Supergirl helps Marcus and his daughter escape the planet before it explodes, but back on Earth, she realizes that she has been gone for several hours and has missed her first day of work at CatCo. Cat Grant, however, forgives her and urges her to embrace her true identity as Supergirl, not just as a reporter.
The episode concludes with Mon-El expressing his admiration for Supergirl's bravery and Cat revealing that she knows Kara's secret identity but chooses to keep it to herself. The ending leaves the audience with a sense of closure for the main plot while also setting up potential storylines for the future.
