Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) is back in action as Supergirl in the show's season 2 episode 21 titled "Resist." The episode picks up after the events of the previous episode where Rhea (Teri Hatcher) had unleashed her wrath on National City. Kara's friends and fellow superheroes James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan), and Mon-El (Chris Wood) are trying to keep the city together while Kara is held captive on the Daxamite ship.
As the episode begins, Rhea is impatiently waiting for Kara to bow down to her and to proclaim Rhea the ruler of Earth. Kara, however, has other plans. She knows that the Daxamites have no intention of peacefully coexisting with humans and would only bring destruction and tyranny to the planet. Kara is determined to resist Rhea, even at the cost of her own life.
Meanwhile, Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) is trying to find a way to stop Rhea and her armies. She enlists the help of Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), who had returned to National City in the previous episode, to rally the citizens of National City to join their cause. Cat, as the media mogul she is, uses her powerful public persona to inspire people to rise up against their oppressors.
Lena and Cat's efforts are met with resistance from Rhea's loyalists and her son, Mon-El. Mon-El is torn between his loyalty to his mother and his love for Kara and his adopted home on Earth. Kara's influence on Mon-El is evident in the way he helps Lena and Cat, even as he struggles with his own conflicting emotions.
As the battle between Rhea and Kara's allies intensifies, other members of the Danvers family come into the picture. Alex (Chyler Leigh), Kara's adoptive sister, and her girlfriend Maggie (Floriana Lima) are at the forefront of the rebellion, fighting alongside James, Winn, and J'onn J'onzz (David Harewood), the Martian Manhunter. The dynamic between the characters is not just about their roles as superheroes but also about their relationships with each other. The chemistry between the characters makes for some heartwarming moments amidst all the chaos.
As the episode draws to a close, the stakes are raised even higher. The fate of the planet hangs in the balance, and Kara has to make some tough decisions to save the people she loves and the planet she has sworn to protect. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with the promise of an epic battle in the season's penultimate episode.
Overall, "Resist" is a dramatic and action-packed episode that further sets up the series for its epic finale. The performances by the cast are top-notch, and the writing is both intense and emotional. The themes of resistance, loyalty, and sacrifice are explored in a thought-provoking manner, making this episode one of the highlights of the season. It's definitely a must-watch for fans of Supergirl and superhero TV shows in general.
