Ep 5. Basking In Basque Country

In the fifth episode of Spain...On the Road Again, Season 1, titled "Basking In Basque Country," our four travel enthusiasts: Mario Batali, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Bittman, and Claudia Bassols set their sights on the Basque Country Region of Spain. They begin their journey by visiting a local farmer's market in San Sebastian and experiencing the vibrant colors and tastes of the local produce. The group is then taken to a farmhouse where they learn about the tradition of making cider from the apples grown on the property.

The group then heads to the coastal town of Getaria, where they visit a traditional fishing port and check out the daily catch of local seafood. Mario Batali leads the group in cooking up a storm, preparing a traditional dish of grilled octopus and fresh tuna for a group of local fishermen. They also attend a local festival where they watch traditional Basque dancers perform and sample some of the region's famous pintxos (tapas).

The next stop on their journey is Bilbao, where they visit the iconic Guggenheim Museum designed by famed architect Frank Gehry. They explore the museum's world-renowned art collection and enjoy a meal at the museum's rooftop restaurant. The team also takes a walk around the city's Casco Viejo (Old Town) and visits a local market where they learn about the history and culture of the Basque people.

The final destination on their tour is the town of Hondarribia, where they experience the cultural and culinary traditions of the Basque people. They visit a txakoli winery and learn about the production of this local wine, before cooking up a traditional Basque feast in a local kitchen. The group is joined by local chefs who teach them the techniques for creating the perfect paella and Basque-style cheesecake.

Throughout their journey, the group is immersed in the rich culture and traditions of the Basque Country Region, and gain an appreciation for the region's unique cuisine and way of life.
