In Psycho-Pass season 1 episode 17, titled "Iron Heart," we see Akane trying to uncover the truth behind the murders that are taking place in the city. The episode begins with a flashback of Akane's childhood where she is seen playing with her friends. She gets a call from Kasei, who informs her about another case.
Akane and Kogami investigate the crime scene and discover that the victim was killed by an Enforcer. They deduce that the Enforcers must have been altered by someone, as they do not have the ability to kill on their own accord. Meanwhile, Ginoza and Yayoi are trying to figure out how to stop the riots that are taking place in the city.
Later, Akane comes across a woman named Rikako who is obsessed with beauty and is also a suspect in the murders. Rikako has created a sculpture out of the victim's body and displays it in public. Akane tries to talk to her, but Rikako is unresponsive. She then goes to visit Makishima, who reveals that Rikako's father was a victim of the Sibyl System, and this has caused Rikako to hate the system.
During their investigation, Akane and Kogami come across a man named Oribe who is known for making prosthetic limbs. They suspect that he may be the one altering the Enforcers. However, when they go to question him, they find him dead, with his own prosthetic heart removed. This leads them to realize that Rikako has been altering the Enforcers by replacing their hearts with prosthetic ones.
As the episode progresses, we see Rikako unveiling her latest sculpture, which is made up of the prosthetic hearts she has collected. Akane and Kogami try to stop her, but she escapes. In the end, they manage to capture her, but she reveals that she has already implanted a prosthetic heart in a prominent politician. She uses this to blackmail the police into releasing her, as she threatens to kill the politician if they do not comply.
