In Persona 4 season 1 episode 3, titled "We Are Friends, Aren't We?", the story opens with Yu Narukami, the main protagonist, settling into his new life in the rural town of Inaba. With his guardian, Dojima, away on work, Yu tries his hand at cooking and cleaning. Meanwhile, Yu meets up with his friend, Yosuke Hanamura, at the local Junes department store, where they discuss rumors of a "Midnight Channel" that broadcasts on rainy nights.

Yu and Yosuke decide to investigate the rumors and watch TV together on a rainy evening. To their surprise, the Midnight Channel appears and shows a distorted figure of a girl. The following day, they discover that the girl on TV is Saki Konishi, a classmate of theirs who was found dead near a TV antenna.

Yu and Yosuke decide to investigate Saki's death, which leads them to the town's liquor store where she worked. They meet with Saki's boss, who tells them that Saki had a fight with her boyfriend the night before she died. The boyfriend is revealed to be a student from another school, and the investigation leads Yu and Yosuke to the Tatsumi textile shop, where he is rumored to work.

At the shop, they meet Kanji Tatsumi, a rough-looking student who intimidates the duo and refuses to give them any information. Later that evening, Yu and Yosuke watch the Midnight Channel again. This time, the distorted figure is Kanji, and they suspect that he may be the next victim.

The next day, Yu and Yosuke confront Kanji and accuse him of being involved in the murders. However, Kanji denies any involvement and tells them that he doesn't know anything about the Midnight Channel. Yu and Yosuke realize that they were wrong and decide to apologize to Kanji.

As the episode progresses, Yu tries to reach out to Kanji, but he remains distant and hostile. Meanwhile, rumors continue to spread in the school, and the investigation into the murders intensifies. Yu begins to suspect that the Midnight Channel may be linked to a shadow world, where the victims are being held captive.

"We Are Friends, Aren't We?" is a tense and gripping episode that introduces the central concept of the mystery surrounding the Midnight Channel. It also explores the complex relationships between the characters, particularly between Yu and Kanji. With its blend of suspense, storytelling, and character development, Persona 4 season 1 episode 3 is a must-watch for fans of the show.
