Not Going Out season 4 episode 2, titled "Debbie," follows the usual hilariously chaotic life of the lead character, Lee, as he navigates various mishaps and misunderstandings in his personal and professional life.
In this episode, Lee's friend Lucy introduces him to a new woman, Debbie, and suggests that they might make a good match. Lee is initially hesitant, as he is still dealing with the aftermath of his breakup with his former girlfriend and the mother of his children, Kate. However, he is persuaded to give it a try and arranges a date with Debbie.
As usual, Lee's plans go awry almost immediately. At the restaurant, he discovers that Debbie is deaf and he doesn't know how to communicate with her. He resorts to typing everything into his phone to show her, and the resulting conversation is hilariously awkward. However, Lee is determined to make the date work, and he manages to find ways to communicate with Debbie throughout their meal.
Meanwhile, Lee's flatmate, Daisy, is dealing with her own romantic woes. Her boyfriend, Tim, has been distant lately, and she suspects that he might be cheating on her. She enlists Lee's help in investigating, and the two of them go undercover to try and catch Tim in the act. Their bumbling attempts at surveillance are both amusing and cringe-worthy, and the final reveal of Tim's secret is both surprising and satisfying.
As the episode progresses, Lee and Debbie's relationship continues to blossom. They bond over their shared love of music and their fondness for Lee's children. However, there are still some challenges to overcome, especially in terms of communication. Lee enlists the help of a sign language tutor and spends hours practicing so that he can better understand Debbie and express himself to her. And when Debbie's ex-husband comes back into the picture, causing some tension and drama, Lee proves himself to be a loyal and supportive partner.
By the end of the episode, Lee and Debbie's relationship has reached a new level of closeness. Lee has even gotten over his initial reluctance to date again, and he seems genuinely happy with the way things are going. Meanwhile, Daisy has found a way to move on from her former relationship and is looking forward to new possibilities. As always, the episode is full of witty banter, slapstick humor, and heartwarming moments, making it a must-watch for fans of the show.
