Ep 1. They Came...
- October 14, 2003
In the first episode of Maburaho, titled "They Came...", we are introduced to a magical world where wizards and witches are a part of everyday society. The story follows the life of a young man named Kazuki Shikimori, who comes from a long lineage of powerful wizards. However, despite his prestigious pedigree, Kazuki is only able to use magic a total of eight times in his life, and after that, he will turn to ash and disappear forever.
As the episode begins, we see Kazuki arriving at the prestigious Aoi Academy, a school for the wealthy elite where students are expected to become powerful wizards and witches. It's clear that Kazuki is a bit out of his element, as he shows up with only one suitcase and a less-than-impressive attitude.
Soon, he meets his new roommate, Yuna Miyama, who seems to take an instant liking to him. However, it quickly becomes clear that Yuna is not your average girl - she is a "ghost", or a being created from magic, with the ability to fly and teleport through walls.
As Kazuki tries to navigate his way through his new school, he meets several other students, each with their own unique magical abilities. There is Rin Kamishiro, a skilled swordswoman who wields a powerful magical sword; Kuriko Kazetsubaki, a beautiful girl who can control the wind and has a habit of teasing Kazuki; and lastly, Shiho Munakata, Kazuki's childhood friend who has a one-sided love for him and can create magical dolls.
However, it soon becomes clear that Kazuki is not just any ordinary wizard. As he goes about his day, he is besieged by several beautiful girls who are all intent on having his children. Apparently, his family lineage is so powerful that any offspring he sires is guaranteed to become a great wizard or witch.
As if this wasn't enough, Kazuki is also being pursued by a mysterious organization known as the Phantom Student Council, who seem to be interested in capturing him for unknown reasons.
Throughout the episode, we see Kazuki struggling to come to terms with his new school and the attention he is getting from all the girls. He tries to keep a low profile, but everywhere he goes, he seems to get caught up in some sort of magical mishap. Whether he's getting trapped in a magical barrier or being chased by a giant creature, it seems like trouble just follows him wherever he goes.
Overall, the first episode of Maburaho is a fun, lighthearted introduction to a world filled with magic and intrigue. We get a taste of the unique magical abilities that each character possesses, and we learn a little bit about Kazuki's mysterious past. While there are definitely moments of fan service and comedy, the episode sets up several plot threads that have the potential to become quite interesting as the series progresses.
