Maburaho is an anime television series that aired from October 2003 to March 2004 on WOWOW, a premium pay-per-view broadcasting station. The series, which spans 24 episodes, was directed by Shinichiro Kimura and produced by J.C. Staff. The story of the show takes us to a world where magic is an essential part of life. In this world, only a few people have the ability to use magic, and they are often born into noble families that specialize in it. The story follows a young boy named Kazuki Shikimori, who is enrolled in Aoi Academy, a high school for young wizards. Here, Kazuki is one of the most popular students in the school because he possesses the rare ability to use magic eight times before he loses it. Kazuki is part of a family of magicians, though they have lost their standing and wealth, but his rare ability makes him a valuable commodity to the wealthy and powerful.
The central plot of the story revolves around Kazuki and three female classmates: Yuna Miyama, Rin Kamishiro, and Kuriko Kazetsubaki. These three girls are determined to win Kazuki's heart and become his wife, but not for the reasons that one might think. The girls believe that by marrying Kazuki, they will have access to his magic, and it will help them become more powerful witches.
Yuna Miyama is the first girl to claim her love for Kazuki, and she has a crush on him since childhood. Yuna is a sweet girl who also has the potential to use magic but has been unable to do so owing to the poor quality of her magical lineage. Rin Kamishiro is the second girl who confesses her feelings to Kazuki. Rin belongs to one of the most prominent families of magicians known as Kamishiro. She is known for her beauty, brains, and her sharp tongue. Finally, we have Kuriko Kazetsubaki, who is the third girl in this love triangle. Kuriko hails from an aristocratic family called Kazetsubaki, which are known for their wealth and beauty. She is an expert in using potions and enjoys luxurious lifestyles.
As the story progresses, Kazuki finds himself embroiled in the rivalry between the girls, both of whom are determined to win his love. In the beginning, Kazuki is unaware of their true intentions but later finds out that the girls only care about his magical abilities. This knowledge leaves Kazuki shattered, and he begins to question whether he should be with any of the girls.
As the plot thickens, the four students find themselves getting into a lot of mishaps and adventures. They must work together to overcome many obstacles as they battle their way through the fierce competitions that they confront in the story. Along the way, the students encounter many enemies who try to take advantage of Kazuki's magical abilities. But the girls and Kazuki come together to fight them off and protect themselves against any harm.
Furthermore, we also meet other supporting characters in the story, such as Kyoko, who is Kazuki's cousin and also has a strong interest in him, and Miyuki, Kazuki's childhood friend who comes to Aoi Academy to see him.
The show's animation is visually stunning, with cool and brightly colored visuals that captivate the viewer's attention. The characters are well-designed, and their personalities are brought out well in the story. The show's soundtrack is also dynamic, with music produced by JaKyung Ha and Ryosuke Nakanishi.
Overall, Maburaho is an exciting anime series that will keep you on your toes with its intricate plotline, vivid animation and strong performances from its voice actors such as Tiffany Grant, Jessica Boone, and Blake Shepard. The central theme of the series is about love, friendship, and the importance of trust. It is an excellent show that is worth watching for all anime lovers.
