Ep 4. But I Do Like You

Shoujo manga enthusiast and aspiring voice actor Izumi Sena has been roped into helping with a commercial shoot for a famous actor, Ryoma Ichijo. Although initially hesitant, Izumi is convinced to do the shoot by his childhood friend and secretly in love with him, Ryoma. In Love Stage season 1 episode 4, titled “But I Do Like You,” we see how being part of the commercial shoot becomes a catalyst for a deeper understanding of each other's feelings.

As the group prepares for the commercial shoot, Izumi and Ryoma's relationship starts to blossom. Izumi idolizes Ryoma and is inspired by his acting, but Ryoma sees something else in Izumi that he's never seen before. During the shoot, Ryoma and Izumi share a moment, which they both recognize as important, but neither are brave enough to approach it directly. Although Izumi is surprised to hear this, he's also relieved to know that Ryoma feels the same. They both share a brief, tender moment, which is quickly interrupted by a fan who recognizes Ryoma. However, the fan's intervention doesn't put a damper on things as Ryoma and Izumi go on their first official date.

During their date, Ryoma and Izumi decide to visit a theme park. As they walk hand in hand through the park, they are the picture of happiness. There's a moment of hesitation when they're both asked to ride a roller coaster, but they both end up having a great time. While taking a break from the rides, Ryoma tells Izumi about his plans for the future. He wants to pursue a career in Hollywood and wants Izumi by his side. Izumi is hesitant at first, but Ryoma is persistent in his affection and reassurance.

As they continue to have fun and enjoy each other's company, Izumi starts to realize that he has deeper feelings for Ryoma than he originally thought. This realization causes Izumi to panic, and he storms off without telling Ryoma why. Worried about Izumi's sudden change of attitude, Ryoma tries to find him. When he does, he discovers that Izumi is worried that they are moving too quickly. Ryoma takes a step back and reassures Izumi that he will wait for him, no matter how long it takes.

With this new understanding, Ryoma and Izumi are able to continue their relationship at their own pace, without any pressure. As they walk hand in hand through the theme park, there's a sense of calm between them, and viewers can see that they truly care for each other. Love Stage season 1 episode 4, “But I Do Like You,” is a beautiful exploration of two characters coming to understand their own feelings and overcoming their fears. It’s a testament to how communication and honesty can lead to a deeper understanding and connection with those you love.
