Bo is on a mission in Tokyo, following a lead that could potentially locate Dagny, her mother's assassin. While on her mission, Bo re-connects with an old friend, the powerful Fae named Tamsin. Tamsin is searching for her own leads on the case, and the two team up to try and uncover the information they need.
As Bo and Tamsin work through their investigation, they encounter a group of Japanese warriors known as the Yamada. The Yamada are an ancient and powerful group of warriors who have been assigned to protect the area from threats, both human and Fae. It quickly becomes apparent that the Yamada are heavily involved in the case that Bo and Tamsin are investigating and are willing to go to any lengths to keep their secrets hidden.
Despite the Yamada's attempts to impede their investigation, Bo and Tamsin continue to dig and uncover more clues. Along the way, they encounter a variety of strange and unusual characters, including a group of Fae who have taken on the appearance of traditional Japanese folklore characters.
As Bo and Tamsin get closer to their goal, they begin to piece together the truth of what really happened to Dagny. They will need to use all their skills and knowledge to stay ahead of the Yamada and unravel the secrets of the case. Meanwhile back in town, Dyson and Mark try to protect Bo’s loved ones from a dangerous new force.
