As winter sets in, Dr. Xand van Tulleken and dietician Hala El-Shafie are back to help viewers shed all those extra holiday pounds. In this week's episode of How To Lose Weight Well, they're bringing some brand new, alternative diets to the table.
The first diet on offer is the self-explanatory 'Ice Cream Diet'. Dr. Xand and Hala are keen to explore whether a diet that includes ice cream can actually lead to weight loss. Rachael and Ysanne are up for the challenge, and they try out two very different versions of the ice cream diet. Rachael opts for an ice cream diet plan that is high in protein and low in fat, while Ysanne tries out an ice cream diet plan that is low in sugar and high in good fats. Both women are pleasantly surprised at how much ice cream they get to eat during the week, and they're both shocked at the amount of weight they lose at the end of it.
The second diet on the menu is the 'Bone Broth Diet'. This diet has been gaining popularity recently as a detox and weight loss solution. Dr. Xand and Hala meet with Claire and Tanya, who have both tried the bone broth diet before and seen some success. The diet involves drinking cups of hot, savoury bone broth throughout the day, which is said to be rich in vitamins and minerals that are good for weight loss. Claire and Tanya report feeling fuller for longer and having more energy while they were on the diet, but did it work for them in terms of weight loss?
Next up is the 'Blood Sugar Diet'. Dr. Xand and Hala believe that blood sugar balance is key to weight loss, and they're keen to explore this idea with two participants, Anna and Angela. Both women are pre-diabetic, so they're keen to try anything that can help them control their blood sugar levels. The blood sugar diet involves cutting out carbs and sugar, and upping your intake of healthy fats and protein. Anna and Angela both find the diet a challenge to stick to, but they're both impressed with how it makes them feel and the weight loss results they see.
The final diet on the show is the 'Mono-Meal Diet'. This diet is based on the idea that eating only one type of food for each meal will help reduce portion sizes and aid weight loss. Dr. Xand and Hala meet with Anna and Ben, who are keen to try out this somewhat unconventional diet. Anna opts for bananas as her mono-meal, while Ben chooses eggs. The pair both report feeling full after each meal, but there are some drawbacks to eating the same thing for every meal of the day. Will the monotony of the mono-meal diet be too much for Anna and Ben?
With so many extreme diets out there, it's hard to know what really works. How To Lose Weight Well tests out the latest fad diets to help viewers find the best way to lose weight, tone up and improve their overall health. Tune in to Episode 3 to find out which diet worked best for the participants.
