As the school year comes to an end, Makoto and her family and friends find themselves reflecting on their time together. In this season finale of Flying Witch, titled Witches' Robes and Days Are as Varied as the Colors of the Rainbow, we see the group enjoying the warm weather and the beautiful scenery of the countryside.
Makoto, Chinatsu, and Kei take a trip to the forest to gather herbs for their magic. While there, they run into a group of witches who have some stunning robes on. This prompts Makoto to invite them over for tea. While the witches are hesitant at first, they end up joining in the fun. The group of friends learn about different spells and magic traditions, enjoying each other's company and taking in the breathtaking surroundings.
Later, the group heads to the beach for some summer fun. There, they have a bonfire, cook dinner, and even make custom T-shirts. Makoto reminisces about the past year and how much she's grown as a witch, as well as how much closer she's gotten to her friends. She also reflects on the different people she's met and the lessons she's learned from them.
As the night progresses, we see glimpses of the various characters' lives after they depart from each other. We see Inukai busy with her work, and Maki studying hard for college exams. Makoto's sister Akane enjoys her life as a self-proclaimed "nomad" and continues to travel the world. Meanwhile, Makoto contemplates what's next for her, as well as what kind of witch she wants to be.
In this episode, we also see Makoto's cousin, who hasn't been seen since the first episode, come back for a visit. He expresses how proud he is of Makoto and how much she's grown since moving to the countryside. This visit causes Makoto to think about how much has changed since she first moved in with her cousins and how comfortable she's become living with them.
Overall, this season finale acts as a reflection of the past year for Makoto and her family and friends. We see how much they've grown and how much fun they've had along the way. The episode ends with (forgive the cliche) a beautiful rainbow, which symbolizes the varied colors of each character's life.
Witches' Robes and Days Are as Varied as the Colors of the Rainbow is a heartwarming and nostalgic episode that leaves the viewer with a sense of contentment and warmth. It's a bittersweet goodbye to a cast of characters who have become like family to the audience.
