In season 5 episode 3 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, titled "Not What You'd Expect," host Guy Fieri takes viewers to unexpected culinary delights across the United States. From a gourmet hot dog joint in Boston to a unique Jamaican fusion restaurant in Portland, Guy discovers eclectic eats and unexpected flavors in every stop on his journey.

The episode kicks off in Boston, Massachusetts, where Guy visits Spike's Junkyard Dogs. Despite its name, this restaurant is far from junky. Instead, it serves up creative and bold hot dogs that are anything but ordinary. Guy tries the Zombie, a hot dog piled high with chili, cheese, and onions, and the Holy Cow, a beef and bacon dog topped with mac and cheese and crispy onions. Spike's puts a modern spin on classic American comfort food, and Guy can't get enough.

Next, Guy heads west to Portland, Oregon, where he discovers a Jamaican fusion restaurant called The Country Cat Dinner House and Bar. The restaurant's chef, Adam Sappington, combines traditional Jamaican flavors with classic Southern cuisine. Guy samples the jerk-inspired smoked chicken, served with black-eyed peas and fried okra, and the bourbon-glazed pork belly, which features a unique blend of spices and seasoning. The Country Cat is a true hidden gem, and Guy can't wait to recommend it to his fans.

The episode then takes viewers to Kittery, Maine, where Guy visits Bob's Clam Hut. At first glance, this longtime seafood joint seems like a typical New England clam shack. But upon closer inspection, it's clear that Bob's is anything but ordinary. The restaurant's fried clams are so good that they've won countless awards, and Guy is blown away by the quality and freshness of the seafood. He also tries the lobster roll, which is packed with huge chunks of succulent lobster meat and served on a toasted bun. Bob's Clam Hut is a true testament to the deliciousness of classic Maine cuisine.

The final stop on Guy's unexpected food tour is in Reno, Nevada, where he visits a popular food truck called Red's Old 395 Grill. This truck is known for its hearty and flavorful sandwiches, including the Fire in the Hole, which features smoked brisket, grilled jalapenos, and pepper jack cheese. Guy also tries the Dirty Harry, a sandwich loaded with pastrami, Swiss cheese, and tangy sauerkraut. Red's Old 395 Grill may be a food truck, but its food is just as impressive as any sit-down restaurant.

Overall, season 5 episode 3 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives is a delicious journey through unexpected and innovative cuisine. The restaurants featured in this episode prove that the best food sometimes comes from the most unexpected places.
