In season 35 episode 13 of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, host Guy Fieri takes viewers on a culinary journey through some of the best takeout options from coast to coast in the United States. The episode, titled "Takeout: Cross-Country Delivery," showcases a variety of restaurants and dishes that are perfect for takeout and delivery.
Fieri begins his journey in Los Angeles, California, at a family-owned Italian restaurant called Baldoria. They specialize in Roman-style pizza that’s cooked in a wood-fired oven. Fieri tries their spicy sausage pizza, which features crispy crust, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and homemade sausage that's seasoned with Calabrian chilies. Next, Fieri stops at Eric Greenspan's Greenspan's Grilled Cheese, also in Los Angeles. Fieri samples the “Roast Duck Grilled Cheese,” which combines shredded duck, Muenster cheese, apricot caper puree, and arugula, and is pressed between two golden slices of sourdough bread.
Heading eastward, Fieri makes a stop in Salt Lake City, Utah, at Moochie's Meatballs. As the name suggests, they serve up meatball sandwiches, and Fieri tries the "Meatball Parmesan" which features homemade meatballs, gooey provolone, and a tangy marinara sauce that's stuffed between two pieces of garlic bread. Next, Fieri makes a stop at Heirloom Market BBQ in Atlanta, Georgia, for some of the best Korean-style barbecue around. Fieri tries their smoked chicken wings that are seasoned with plenty of spices and served with a side of a tangy and spicy sauce.
Moving on to Charlotte, North Carolina, Fieri makes a stop at Middle James Brewing Company. This spot offers a variety of beers, and they're also serving up some great burgers. Fieri samples the “Pastrami Burger,” which is piled high with juicy pastrami, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, and Russian dressing, all stacked between two toasted buns. Next, Fieri heads to San Antonio, Texas, to check out Burgerteca, where they’re putting a unique spin on traditional burgers. Fieri tries their "Albondiga Burger," which features a blend of beef and chorizo formed into a patty, topped with melted American cheese, avocado and a secret sauce.
Lastly, Fieri heads to Brooklyn, New York, for some classic pizza at Lucali. This pizza restaurant only serves a few types of pizza, but they do it to perfection. Fieri tries the “Pepperoni Pie,” which features plenty of crispy pepperoni and fresh mozzarella, all baked to perfection in a brick oven.
Throughout the episode, Fieri also highlights the challenges restaurants have faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and how some of these restaurants have adapted to survive during these trying times. Along the way, Fieri also shares tips on how to order takeout like a pro, and how to transport your food safely from the restaurant to your home.
Overall, "Takeout: Cross-Country Delivery" is a fantastic episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives that highlights some of the best takeout options across America. From classic pizza to unique burgers and everything in between, Fieri's journey showcases the incredible variety of cuisine that's available for takeout and delivery, and celebrates the hard work and creativity of restaurant owners and chefs from all over the country.
