Triple D Nation returns on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives season 30 episode 19 with the theme of "Fried, Smoked". Host Guy Fieri takes us on a journey to revisit some of the best fried and smoked dishes from his past restaurant visits across the United States.
The first stop on the episode is in Nashville, Tennessee, where Guy visits a beloved local institution known for their famous hot chicken. This time, they're grilling up some smoked wings that have become a recent favorite with customers. Guy catches up with the owner and head chef, who explains how they infuse their signature hot chicken spice blend into the smoked wings for a unique twist on a classic dish.
Next up, Guy heads to Miami, Florida, to check out a small family-owned restaurant that specializes in authentic Cuban cuisine. The owner shows off their signature fried plantains, which are perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Guy also tries their famous Cuban sandwich, which is made with slow-roasted pork, ham, cheese, and pickles pressed between two slices of bread and then toasted until crispy.
Moving on to Albuquerque, New Mexico, Guy visits a BBQ joint that has become a local favorite for their smoked meats and creative sides. The chef shows Guy their famous "Frito Pie" - a mound of Fritos topped with smoked brisket, house-made BBQ sauce, and a medley of other toppings that change daily. Guy also tries their fried green chile strips, which are battered and fried until crispy and served with a spicy dipping sauce.
In Chicago, Illinois, Guy revisits a restaurant known for its crispy battered and fried shrimp. The chef shows Guy how they prepare their signature dish by lightly coating the shrimp in a seasoned batter and frying them until golden brown. Guy also tries their famous Chicago-style hot dog, which is smothered in mustard, onions, relish, and a slew of other toppings.
Finally, Guy heads south to Austin, Texas, to check out a BBQ joint that's famous for their award-winning brisket. The owner shows Guy their unique take on "burnt ends" - crispy, savory bites of smoked brisket that are served with a tangy BBQ sauce. They also fry up some jalapeno poppers stuffed with brisket and cream cheese, which Guy declares as one of the best appetizers he's ever had.
Throughout the episode, Guy shares interesting facts about each restaurant and their signature dishes. He also catches up with the owners and chefs to hear about any new developments or changes since he last visited. "Fried, Smoked" is a mouth-watering episode that showcases some of the best comfort food across the country.
