In the second episode of the twenty-ninth season of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, host Guy Fieri takes viewers on a journey through the southern United States to explore the region's iconic and delicious sandwich offerings.
The episode starts in Birmingham, Alabama, at a family-owned BBQ joint named Saw's BBQ. Here, Guy meets the owner, Mike Wilson, who shares the secret behind their popular 'Pork & Greens' sandwich, which features a generous helping of pulled pork topped with homemade collard greens and garlic aioli.
Next up, Guy heads to Nashville, Tennessee, to visit the legendary Arnold's Country Kitchen, which serves up traditional southern fare in a cafeteria-style setting. The highlight of this stop is their famous roast beef sandwich, which is piled high with tender shredded beef and served on a soft bun with a side of gravy for dipping.
From Nashville, Guy makes his way to Atlanta, Georgia, to try the unconventional and delicious creations at The General Muir. This hip and trendy deli offers a range of innovative sandwiches, such as their "Hash Brown Sandwich" featuring eggs, cheese, bacon, and hash browns on a fluffy bun, and their "Pastrami Debris Po'Boy" which is a spin on the classic New Orleans sandwich.
The fourth stop on Guy's southern sandwich adventure takes him to Charleston, South Carolina, to visit Tattooed Moose, a dive bar that also serves up some of the best sandwiches in town. Here, Guy tries their famous "Duck Club", a sandwich stacked high with crispy duck, bacon, and Boursin cheese, and served on a toasted hoagie roll.
Finally, Guy heads to Lexington, Kentucky, where he samples the regional specialty at Wallace Station Diner. Their unique Hot Brown sandwich is a Kentucky classic - an open-faced sandwich featuring turkey, bacon, and Mornay sauce, all broiled to perfection on a slice of bread.
Throughout the episode, Guy also meets the chefs and owners behind the sandwiches, learning about their inspiration for the dishes and the stories behind the eateries. From traditional southern fare to innovative and unexpected flavors, the sandwiches featured in this episode showcase the diverse and delicious culinary offerings of the southern states.
