In this episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, host Guy Fieri takes viewers on a culinary journey through Italian, Hawaiian, and Colombian cuisine.
First stop is at an Italian joint in Las Vegas, where Guy meets chef Marc Vetri. Together, they try some classic Italian dishes like porchetta, handmade pasta, and an unforgettable meatball sandwich. The real star of the show, however, is the restaurant's famous pizza, made with a mouthwatering blend of cheeses and finished in a wood-fired oven.
Next, Guy heads to Honolulu to check out a Hawaiian spot that's been serving up island-inspired cuisine for over 50 years. Guy chats with the owner, who explains that their secret to success is all in the marinade - a special blend of shoyu, ginger, and garlic that infuses their chicken, beef, and pork dishes with bold flavor. Guy dives in to sample some of their most popular dishes, like tender kalbi short ribs, crispy chicken katsu, and a sweet and savory loco moco.
Finally, Guy travels to Bogotá, Colombia, to try some authentic Colombian food at a family-owned restaurant. The owner, who learned to cook from her grandmother, prepares traditional dishes like bandeja paisa, a hearty platter of beans, rice, chorizo, chicharrón, avocado, and plantains, and ajiaco, a rich soup made with chicken, potatoes, and corn. Guy is impressed by the vibrant flavors and unique ingredients used in Colombian cuisine, and leaves feeling full and satisfied.
Throughout the episode, Guy also takes time to meet the chefs and owners behind each restaurant, learning about their culinary roots and the stories behind their food. With each stop, he discovers new and exciting flavors, and celebrates the diverse cultures that make up the American culinary landscape.
