In the second episode of season 28 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, host Guy Fieri travels to North Carolina to explore some local eateries that offer classic American cuisine with a Southern twist.
The episode kicks off with a visit to a family-owned seafood joint, where Guy samples some succulent fried fish tacos and a traditional North Carolina-style seafood boil. Next, he heads to a barbecue joint that uses a unique blend of mesquite and hickory wood to smoke their meats to perfection. Guy tries some of their signature chopped pork sandwiches and tangy vinegar-based barbecue sauce.
Moving on, Guy visits a historic diner that has been serving up Southern-style breakfasts and classic diner fare for over 60 years. He tries their signature corned beef hash and pancakes topped with fresh berries and whipped cream.
In a departure from the classic American fare, Guy visits a Japanese-inspired eatery that serves up some of the best ramen bowls and sushi rolls in town. He chats with the chef, who shows him how to make a spicy tuna roll and a piping hot bowl of ramen.
Finally, Guy ends the episode on a sweet note, with a visit to a retro-style ice cream parlor that offers over 60 flavors of homemade ice cream, including a fiery hot cinnamon flavor and a tantalizing banana pudding flavor.
Throughout the episode, Guy meets with the owners and chefs of each eatery and learns about their unique stories and culinary techniques. With his signature enthusiasm and charm, he takes viewers on a mouth-watering journey through some of North Carolina's best eateries.
