In season 2 episode 11 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, host Guy Fieri is on a mission to find the best "off the hook" specials that are unique to each restaurant he visits. Throughout the episode, he visits three restaurants across the country that are known for their outstanding food and one-of-a-kind specials.
The first stop on Guy's culinary adventure is The Gristmill, a restaurant located in New Braunfels, Texas. The Gristmill is housed in a 100-year-old cotton gin and features a beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the Guadalupe River. Guy meets with head chef Adam Yoho, who shows him how to make their signature dish, the Gristmill Grande, a giant quesadilla filled with beef, chicken, beans, cheese, and guacamole. Guy can't resist trying it himself, and he's blown away by the huge portion and incredible flavor.
Next up is Paseo Caribbean Food in Seattle, Washington, where Guy meets with chef and owner Eric Banh. Paseo is known for its mouthwatering Caribbean sandwiches, and Eric shows Guy how to make the Caribbean Roast sandwich, which is filled with slow-roasted pork, cilantro, aioli, and pickled jalapenos. Guy can't get enough of the tender pork and savory aioli, and he's thrilled to discover the unique flavor profile of Caribbean cuisine.
Finally, Guy visits Bulldog Burger Bistro in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he meets with owners Hailey and Collin Moore. Bulldog Burger Bistro is known for its creative burgers, and Hailey and Collin show Guy two of their most popular specials: the Boudreaux Burger, which is topped with boudin sausage and pepper jack cheese, and the Mardi Gras Mambo Burger, which is topped with crawfish tails and creole sauce. Guy can't believe how perfectly cooked the burgers are, and he's impressed by the inventive toppings that give each burger a unique twist.
Throughout the episode, Guy also highlights some other unique specials that he discovers on his travels, including a massive 6-pound burrito in San Antonio, Texas, and a giant burger stuffed with mac and cheese in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He also visits a small seafood shack in New Iberia, Louisiana, where he can't resist trying the famous shrimp po' boy sandwich.
Overall, Off the Hook Specials is a mouthwatering episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives that showcases some of the most creative and delicious dishes from across the country. From massive burritos to unique sandwich combinations, these specials are truly "off the hook" and will leave viewers hungry for more.
