John and Wes are detectives who have been assigned to work together in Los Angeles. The two have very different personalities, and it becomes apparent that they have very different approaches to police work. John is more of a by-the-book kind of detective, while Wes takes a more relaxed approach. The two are constantly bickering and disagreeing with each other, but they are also very good at their jobs.
In this episode, titled "Soul Mates," John and Wes are investigating a robbery that occurred at a high-end jewelry store. The owner of the store has been shot and is in critical condition, and a valuable diamond has been taken. As the detectives begin to investigate, they discover that the robbery is just the tip of the iceberg.
They soon learn that the jewelry store owner had been involved in a long-term affair with a woman who had been posing as his wife. The woman, whose real name is Olivia, is actually a con artist who has been running a long con on the jewelry store owner. Olivia has been posing as his wife in order to swindle him out of his fortune, and she has been manipulating him for years.
As John and Wes try to unravel the complicated web of lies and deceit, they find themselves getting personally involved in the case. John becomes particularly invested in the case, as he has a personal connection to the jewelry store owner. His father used to work for the owner, and John feels responsible for catching the person who shot him.
Meanwhile, Wes is struggling in his personal life. His girlfriend has just broken up with him, and he is feeling lost and alone. As the case continues, he begins to develop feelings for Olivia, the con artist who is at the center of the investigation.
The episode is filled with tense moments and complicated relationships. As John and Wes try to bring the criminals to justice, they must also deal with their own personal demons. They are forced to confront their own flaws and weaknesses, and they begin to realize that they need each other more than they ever thought possible.
Overall, "Soul Mates" is a thrilling and emotional episode of Common Law. The show does an excellent job of balancing the action and suspense with the personal relationships between the characters. It is a great example of the show's ability to tell a compelling story while also developing the characters in meaningful ways.
