In the Hands of Giants, Part 1 is the first episode of the Australian television series City Homicide, which premiered on 27 August 2007. The episode begins with a woman being attacked in an alleyway, and is left for dead. When the homicide team arrives on the scene, they quickly realise that this is not an ordinary case.
The team is led by Senior Detective Stanley Wolfe, a gruff and experienced detective who is respected by his team. Alongside him are Detective Sergeant Jennifer Mapplethorpe, a tough but sympathetic detective, and Detective Senior Constable Duncan Freeman, a young and enthusiastic member of the team. Together, they must unravel the complex web of clues in order to solve the case.
The victim is identified as a sex worker named Rosie Martin, who has a troubled past and a long list of enemies. The team quickly realises that they are dealing with a killer who is targeting sex workers, and that they need to catch him before he strikes again.
As the investigation unfolds, the team begins to uncover a dark and seedy world of prostitution and drugs. They meet a range of characters, from fellow sex workers to drug dealers and gang members, and must navigate their way through this dangerous landscape in order to find the killer.
One of the key suspects is a man named Lachlan Harriot, who has a history of violence against sex workers. The team is convinced that he is their killer, but they struggle to find concrete evidence to prove it. Meanwhile, another sex worker comes forward with a story that could break the case wide open, but she is equally scared of both the killer and the police, and is reluctant to come forward.
As the team works tirelessly to solve the case, tensions begin to rise between them. Stanley is frustrated with Jennifer's lack of progress, and Duncan is struggling to keep up with the pace of the investigation. But the team must put their differences aside if they are to catch the killer before he strikes again.
In the Hands of Giants, Part 1 is a gripping and intense episode that sets the tone for the rest of the series. It explores the complexities of police work, the dangers of detective work, and the toll that it can take on those who do it. The characters are well-drawn and complex, and the storyline is both engaging and thought-provoking.
