Insured by Smith and Wesson is the eighth episode of the first season of the American crime drama television series Boomtown. This episode originally aired on NBC on November 17, 2002, and was directed by Tom Hanks.

In this episode, we see the detectives of the LAPD dealing with a new case involving the theft of a firearm. The gun belonged to a wealthy businessman named Andrew Copeland, who reported it missing with the hope of getting an insurance payout. Copeland is played by guest star Michael B. Silver, who gives an excellent performance as a man who is willing to go to great lengths to get what he wants.

Meanwhile, Detective Joel Stevens (played by Donnie Wahlberg) is still struggling to come to terms with the death of his partner, Detective Tom Turcotte (played by Reed Diamond). He has been seeing a therapist, who suggests that he take some time off from work to deal with his grief. However, Stevens refuses to take the time off and instead throws himself into his work, hoping that it will give him a sense of purpose.

As the detectives investigate the gun theft, they come across a number of suspects, including a gang of teenage boys who have been involved in a string of burglaries. They also discover that Copeland's wife, Tanya (played by Jessica Steen), has been having an affair with one of their neighbors. However, despite their best efforts, they are unable to find the missing gun.

Meanwhile, a young boy named Anthony (played by Michael Welch) approaches Detective Bobby Smith (played by Mykelti Williamson) with an unusual request. Anthony knows that Smith is a former gang member and asks him to teach him how to fight. Smith is hesitant at first, but eventually agrees to help the boy, hoping to steer him away from a life of crime.

As the detectives continue their investigation, they discover that the missing gun may be related to a murder that occurred two years ago. They begin to unravel a web of deceit and corruption that involves some of the city's most powerful and influential people.

Overall, Insured by Smith and Wesson is an excellent episode of Boomtown. It is well-written, well-acted, and keeps the audience engaged from beginning to end. The episode touches on a number of important themes, including the dangers of gun violence, the struggle to come to terms with loss, and the power of redemption.
