In the first episode of Angelic Layer season 1, titled "Hello! My Very Own Angel," we are introduced to a world where people can control dolls in battles called Angelic Layer. The main character, Misaki Suzuhara, is a young girl who has just moved to Tokyo and is starting her first day of school. While there, she sees a broadcast about Angelic Layer and becomes interested in it.

Misaki heads to a store to buy an Angelic Layer set and meets a boy named Tamayo who helps her pick out a doll and teaches her how to use it. He explains that the dolls are controlled by a device called a "psychic card" that the player must move using their own body movements. Misaki struggles at first, but with Tamayo's help, she eventually gets the hang of it.

Misaki names her doll "Hikaru" and enters her into her first battle. During the match, Hikaru is struggling against her opponent until Misaki remembers Tamayo's advice and starts speaking to her psychic card, encouraging Hikaru to keep fighting. Hikaru miraculously gains a new ability and wins the battle.

After her victory, Misaki meets a woman named Shoko who introduces her to the world of professional Angelic Layer battles. She also learns that Shoko is her estranged aunt and her mother's sister. Shoko invites Misaki to participate in a tournament to determine the national champion and Misaki agrees, determined to become the best Angelic Layer player.

The episode ends with Misaki and Hikaru practicing for the upcoming tournament. Misaki expresses her excitement for the future battles and her newfound love for Angelic Layer.

Overall, "Hello! My Very Own Angel" sets up the basics of the series while introducing the main character, her motivations, and the concept of Angelic Layer. The episode provides enough background information for viewers to understand the world and the rules of the game, while also leaving room for future character development and plot progression.
