Angelic Layer is a 26-episode Japanese anime television series produced by studio Bones and directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori. The show is based on the shonen manga series of the same name by Clamp. The story revolves around a young girl named Misaki Suzuhara who moves to Tokyo to live with her aunt. While exploring the city, she stumbles upon a mysterious arena where people control small, doll-like robots called Angels through a mental connection known as "Angelic Layer". Fascinated by the game, Misaki decides to try her hand at it, and quickly becomes one of the top players.
As Misaki navigates the competitive world of Angelic Layer, she makes new friends and rivals, and uncovers a dark conspiracy involving the creator of the game and his mysterious organization known as "The Icchan Foundation". The cast of Angelic Layer is led by Ayako Kawasumi as Misaki Suzuhara, the plucky and determined protagonist who dreams of becoming the best Angelic Layer player in Japan. Other notable members include Chiemi Chiba as Hatoko Kobayashi, Misaki's best friend and fellow player; Kikuko Inoue as Shuko Suzuhara, Misaki's aunt and a renowned computer scientist; and Houko Kuwashima as Tamayo Kizaki, a former Angelic Layer champion who becomes Misaki's mentor.
