The pruning of new TV series continues, as NBC cancels two of its freshman shows. The network plans to use the vacated time slots for very specific purposes; another new series and a returning show will fill the holes beginning in early 2014.

If the producers want to start shooting "Fifty Shades of Grey" at the beginning of November, they'll need a leading man. Actor Jamie Dornan might be willing to help them out in that department, and according to an anonymous source, the producers are inclined to take him up on the offer.

We all expected "Gravity" to outrun all the competition at the box office this weekend, but by the end of the weekend, it was clear how surprisingly far behind all the contenders really were. This week's new releases proved no match for the blockbuster.

This weekend's new movies enter a marketplace that's been dominated by "Gravity" for the past two weeks, and last week's debut by "Captain Phillips" wasn't unimpressive, either.
