Future Film News: Robert Downey, Jr. Likely to Star in P.T. Anderson's 'Inherent Vice'
February 20, 2011 @ 4:21 pm PST    There Will Be Blood     Scott Nye

Robert Downey, Jr. is one of the finest actors working today, but ever since seeing fame and fortune in "Iron Man 2" he has been content with blockbusters and high-profile comedies.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter thinks it's looking more and more likely that he'll come back to his roots with a role in Paul Thomas Anderson's adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel, "Inherent Vice," this fall.

February 20, 2011 @ 4:07 pm PST    The Great Gatsby     Scott Nye

Writer/director Bax Luhrmann has publicly taken his time with his adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's most famous work, "The Great Gatsby."

In 2008, shortly before his film "Australia" came out and tanked, he bought the rights to the novel. Late last year, he began workshopping the project in New York, with Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, and Rebecca Hall as Daisy Buchanan.

A Man's Man: Tim Allen Returns to TV in Untitled ABC Pilot
February 19, 2011 @ 4:54 am PST    Home Improvement, 30 Rock, Who Is Cletis Tout?, Toy Story     Scott Nye

Tim Allen gets sort of a bum rap. Sure, he's the far less accomplished member of the "Toy Story" duo, as Ricky Gervais memorably pointed out at the Golden Globes in January.

But he's still made some time for the finer things in entertainment, from the it-still-holds-up "Galaxy Quest" to a really fun little movie called "Who Is Cletis Tout?" to starring in a David Mamet film (albeit not one of Mamet's better films).

DIY 'American Idol': NBC's Refocuses Music Industry on 'The Voice'
February 19, 2011 @ 4:51 am PST    Last Call with Carson Daly     Scott Nye

Apparently "American Idol" isn't democratic enough, what with their auditions in select parts of the country and such. NBC is hoping to one-up the competition by drawing contestants...from their couches?

"The Voice," set to air this spring, gives potential contestants the chance to audition right from their living room. All you need is a microphone and a webcam, common components to any laptop these days.

Episode '30 Rock' Season 5, Episode 15 - 'It's Never Too Late for Now' Recap
February 18, 2011 @ 2:50 pm PST    30 Rock     Andy Neuenschwander

This week's episode opens with Liz, following her breakup with Carol, walking in with a cat. Uh oh.

Yep, it seems that Liz has "given up". Fanny pack, adopted cat, CBS viewing...she is moving into spinster-hood. After a joke about "the merger", we're off.

The theme (and title) for this week is "It's Never Too Late For Now", as illustrated by Pete and Frank's impromptu song as Pete recounts his rock star days as part of "Loverboy".

Episode 'Community' Season 2, Episode 16 - 'Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking' Recap

Remember how Pierce was unconscious on a park bench at the end of last week's episode? Well, that was no joke.

This week's ep opens up in a hospital, where Pierce was taken after overdosing on pills. The writers (and Chevy) really took this storyline to the extreme: what you might not know is that Chevy Chase was actually addicted to painkillers back in the 1980's and had to go to rehab for it.

February 18, 2011 @ 2:29 pm PST    The Office     Richard Sharp

After 11 years of filming, editing, re-shooting, and re-editing, Michael Scott finally screened his action magnum opus, “Threat Level Midnight” on last night’s episode of “The Office.”

It’s “Goldfinger” meets “Youngblood” meets “The Maltese Falcon,” with a twist of “Thriller.
