The Silence of the Cicadas is the third episode of the first season of the thriller television series Zoo. The episode originally aired on CBS on July 14, 2015, and was directed by Michael Katleman and written by Jay Faerber.
The episode follows the characters as they try to figure out what is causing animals around the world to start exhibiting strange and violent behaviour. The team, consisting of zoologist Jackson Oz (James Wolk), journalist Jamie Campbell (Kristen Connolly), veterinary pathologist Mitch Morgan (Billy Burke), and French intelligence agent Chloe Tousignant (Nora Arnezeder), is still trying to gather information about the animals' behaviour and its connection to a mysterious illness.
One of the team's leads takes them to the Appalachian Mountains, where they investigate an unusually large swarm of cicadas. The cicadas' loud buzzing has stopped, and the team finds that the insects have become silent and are showing signs of aggression. Their investigation leads them to a secluded area where they discover a group of people living in a self-sustaining community. The team begins to suspect that the group might be connected to the animal attacks.
While the team is in the Appalachian Mountains, they receive an urgent message from a colleague, Dr. Robert Oz (Ken Olin), who is working with the government to develop a cure for the animal virus. Dr. Oz warns them that the government may be planning to stop their investigation due to fears that it could cause a widespread panic.
Back in Washington, D.C., FBI agent Ben Shafer (Geoff Stults) is investigating a break-in at the office of his boss, Deputy Director of National Intelligence Wailin Davis (Carl Lumbly). Shafer discovers that the break-in was not a robbery, but rather an attempt to steal sensitive files related to the animal virus.
As the team continues their investigation, they discover that the self-sustaining community in the Appalachian Mountains is under threat from a group of hunters. The team works to protect the community while also searching for evidence that could prove their suspicions about the animal virus. The situation comes to a head as the hunters attack the community, and the team must act quickly to save the members of the community and stop the hunters.
Overall, The Silence of the Cicadas is an action-packed episode that moves the plot forward while adding more depth to the characters and the overall mystery of the animal virus. The episode features tense action scenes, interesting character interactions, and several surprises that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
