In the first episode of Zoo, entitled "First Blood," we are introduced to a strange and terrifying phenomenon that is taking place all over the world. Animals of every kind, from lions to birds to house pets, are beginning to attack humans without provocation, in large and coordinated groups. We witness firsthand the devastating aftermath of one of these attacks, as a group of lions lay waste to a village in Africa.
We then follow our main character, a young biologist named Jackson Oz (played by James Wolk), who has been tracking this phenomenon for years, ever since he witnessed a similar attack in his youth. Oz is convinced that there must be a global cause for this sudden and unprecedented behavior, and sets out to investigate.
Along the way, Oz teams up with various other experts in the field, including a journalist named Jamie Campbell (Kristen Connolly), who is determined to uncover the truth about these animal attacks. Together, they trek across the globe, from Botswana to Los Angeles, seeking answers and encountering danger at every turn.
As the episode progresses, we learn more about the strange behavior of the animals, and come to understand that it is not just limited to attacks on humans. Moose and elk in North America are beginning to form "herds" and migrate across the continent, despite their natural instincts, while bats in Texas are behaving oddly and transmitting a dangerous virus.
As Oz and his team work to unravel the mystery, they encounter resistance from various sources, including a wealthy industrialist (played by Nonso Anozie) who seems to know more than he is letting on. Meanwhile, the animal attacks continue and escalate, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
Overall, the first episode of Zoo sets the stage for a thrilling and suspenseful series, introducing us to a world where animals have turned against humans on a global scale. With an engaging cast of characters and plenty of intrigue to keep us guessing, it is clear that there are many twists and turns still to come in this captivating and unpredictable story.
