In episode 5 of Z: The Beginning of Everything, entitled "The It Girl," we see Zelda Fitzgerald struggling with her newfound fame and the pressures that come with it. Her husband, F. Scott Fitzgerald, has just published his first novel and it's a massive success. As a result, Zelda is quickly becoming a socialite and a fashion icon. She's invited to all the best parties and social events and her every move is being watched and reported on by the media.
As Zelda tries to navigate this new world, she begins to feel overwhelmed by the attention and the expectations placed on her. She starts to question whether she's truly happy living this lifestyle or if it's just something she's doing to please her husband and society.
Meanwhile, Scott is consumed with his work and is neglecting their relationship. Zelda tries to express her feelings to him, but he's too focused on his writing to listen. This leads to a heated argument between the two and Zelda ends up storming out of their apartment.
In an effort to escape her problems, Zelda attends a party with her friend Edna St. Vincent Millay. There, she meets a young actress named Tallulah Bankhead who is everything Zelda aspires to be - free-spirited, confident, and unapologetic. Tallulah takes Zelda under her wing and encourages her to break free from societal expectations and live life on her own terms.
As Zelda starts to embrace her own individuality, she begins to realize that her marriage to Scott may not be what she wants after all. She's faced with a difficult decision - stay in a marriage that's stifling her personality or break free and live the life she truly wants.
Overall, "The It Girl" is a powerful episode that highlights the struggles of fame and the pressures women face to conform to societal ideals. It's a poignant reminder that true happiness can only be found when we're true to ourselves.
