Z: The Beginning of Everything is an Amazon Prime series that depicts the life of F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife, Zelda Fitzgerald, and their tumultuous relationship during the 1920s. In season 1 episode 10, Best of All, we see the aftermath of the events that unfolded in the previous episode.
Zelda (Christina Ricci) is devastated after learning that her husband, Scott (David Hoflin), cheated on her with her friend, Tallulah Bankhead (Christina Bennett Lind). She is struggling to come to terms with the fact that her husband is unfaithful and even more so with the realization that he no longer loves her.
Zelda tries to find comfort in her friends, but they are too preoccupied with their own lives to pay attention to her. She realizes that she is truly alone and decides to take matters into her own hands. Zelda decides to leave Scott and move to New York City, where she can start a new life and pursue her dreams.
The episode follows Zelda as she says goodbye to her old life in Montgomery, Alabama, and embarks on a new chapter. We see her struggle to adjust to life in the big city, but she is determined to make a name for herself. Zelda starts to socialize with other artists and writers of the time, including Dorothy Parker (Valerie Buhagiar) and Edna St. Vincent Millay (Jessica De Gouw).
Zelda's life in New York City is not without its challenges, particularly when it comes to her relationship with Scott. He is still very much in her life, and she struggles to let go of their past. Zelda also has to contend with the disapproval of her family, who are unhappy with her decision to leave Scott and her hometown.
Despite these challenges, Zelda remains determined to make the most of her new life. She becomes more involved in the artistic community in New York City and starts to write her own stories and articles. Zelda begins to build a new identity for herself, one that is not defined by her relationship with Scott.
In the final scenes of the episode, we see Zelda attending a party and being introduced to the famous dancer, Luisita (Adriana DeGirolami). The two women strike up a conversation, and it becomes clear that there is a mutual attraction between them. This marks a turning point for Zelda, who is starting to explore her own sexuality and desires.
Overall, Best of All is a poignant episode that showcases Zelda's strength and resilience in the face of adversity. We see her taking charge of her own life and pursuing her own dreams, even when faced with obstacles. The episode also sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting and transformative journey for Zelda in season 2.
