Ep 4. Pegasus's Invitation. [The Creator Returns]
- March 11, 2003
In the fourth episode of the fourth season of Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters, titled "Pegasus's Invitation. [The Creator Returns]," things begin with Yugi and Téa at school where Téa is asking Yugi about their upcoming trip to Duelist Kingdom. Téa is feeling a bit uneasy, fearing for Yugi's and the others' safety while they participate in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Seto Kaiba is seen trying to rebuild his company and restore the reputation it lost due to his adoptive father's (Gozo Seto) wrongdoings. The undertaking has been tough for Kaiba, especially since it's impossible to forget the torment he endured at the hands of his father. While going through Gozo Seto's files, Seto stumbled upon a clue to his past which he plans to trace in order to get answers.
The episode then takes an interesting twist when Yugi and Téa are invited to participate in an exhibition match hosted by Maximillion Pegasus on his private island. Yugi and his friends arrive at Pegasus's mansion where Pegasus himself greets Yugi and Téa. Pegasus is happy to see Yugi again and mentions his absent companion Joey. Pegasus invites everyone inside his mansion and shows them the new technology he's developed, VR pods, capable of simulating a realistic dueling experience without the actual cards. Yugi and his friends are amazed. Suddenly, Pegasus challenges Yugi to a duel. If Yugi wins, Pegasus would reveal his upcoming project - if he loses, then Yugi has to work with Pegasus on his project.
Surprised by the challenge, Yugi agrees to the duel. The show then moves to the virtual reality dueling stage. Pegasus, who has developed a new deck of cards with more complex abilities, has an upper hand advantage against Yugi. Yugi uses his general monster cards, which don't seem to be much of a match against Pegasus's advanced cards. The duel is amazing and intense, with each strategist trying their best to win. Things take an unexpected turn when Pegasus plays a Necrofear card, causing Yugi to lose his consciousness and becoming trapped in the virtual reality world.
The story then shifts to Kaiba, who is searching for answers about his long-lost birth father. He went to the place where he grew up, searching for any leads or information that could lead him to his father. His luck changes when he meets a person who used to work with his father. The person tells him that Gozo Seto worked on a secret project related to virtual reality. Kaiba, intrigued by the information, gets even more determined to uncover what his father's project was.
Back on the island, Yugi is confronted by Pegasus's right-hand man, Croquet, who was tasked with overseeing the tournament grounds. He reveals that Pegasus's new deck has a dark power, and whoever loses to it will be trapped in the virtual world. Croquet also mentions that Pegasus has been working hard to restore the ancient game of Duel Monsters, improve the dueling experience, and surpass the current game by making it more intense, more realistic, and more dangerous.
The final moments of the episode reveal that Pegasus's upcoming project is a brand new Duel Monsters game, with more realistic and challenging gameplay, that will revolutionize the world of dueling for everyone. Meanwhile, Kaiba is shown holding a letter delivered by a mysterious person from Pegasus himself, inviting him to participate in the upcoming tournament set for Duelist Kingdom.
Overall, the episode is full of suspense, intrigue, and twists that make it an exciting watch for fans. The introduction of VR technology, Pegasus's new deck and the ancient game of Duel Monsters opens up several new possibilities for the show's future, making it a must-watch for those who love Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters and the world of competitive card games.
