Yugi and Joey are taking a stroll through the park when they come across a rare card shop. Joey is drawn to a card called the Red-Eyes Black Dragon, which he desperately wants to add to his collection.
As luck would have it, the card's owner challenges Joey to a duel, with the Red-Eyes Black Dragon as the prize. Joey eagerly accepts, but soon learns that the card shop owner, named Rex Raptor, is a skilled duelist with a powerful deck.
The duel begins, with Joey struggling to keep up with Rex's onslaught of monsters and traps. Meanwhile, Yugi realizes that something is off about Rex's deck – it seems too similar to that of Seto Kaiba, the CEO of KaibaCorp and Yugi's arch-rival.
As the duel continues, Yugi and his friends begin to suspect that Rex may be working for Kaiba, attempting to collect rare cards to give to his boss. Yugi also realizes that there's more at stake in this duel than just a single card – if Rex wins, he'll take all of Joey's rare cards as well.
Determined not to let that happen, Yugi steps in and challenges Rex to a different kind of duel. This time, the players will bet on the worth of their cards, with the winner taking all. Yugi is confident in his skills, but soon finds himself at a disadvantage when Rex reveals a powerful card called the Two-Headed King Rex.
Despite this setback, Yugi holds his own and manages to amass a higher value in cards than Rex. However, their duel is interrupted by the appearance of a mysterious figure known as the Player Killer of Darkness.
The Player Killer challenges Yugi to a shadow game – one in which the stakes are not just cards, but the very souls of the players. Yugi and the others are horrified, realizing that they've stumbled into a trap set by the evil Maximillion Pegasus, the creator of the Duel Monsters game.
Will Yugi be able to defeat the Player Killer and save his friends from a fate worse than death? Watch Trial by Red Eyes to find out.
