As a fictional workplace comedy set in Hell, Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell is not your typical TV series. In season 3 episode 3, titled Three Demons and a Demon Baby, we see more of the hilarious antics that make this show so entertaining.
The episode begins with our protagonist Gary, a demon working for Satan, receiving an important task. Satan has asked him to take care of a demon baby, which might sound like an easy job for most people, but not for Gary. As it turns out, the baby is a possessed object, and it won't stop crying unless it is changed by three different demons over its lifetime. To make matters worse, the baby's diapers are made of human skin, which, needless to say, is pretty gross to handle.
Next, we see Gary and Claude, his demon coworker, engaging in some banter while taking care of the baby. Claude suggests giving the baby to a human family, to which Gary responds that he doesn't want to be responsible for a possible demon-human hybrid. From this exchange, we can see that the show's humor comes from the devilishly twisted logic of its characters.
Later in the episode, we see Satan giving a promotion to one of his employees, revealing that he is retiring soon. This creates tension among the demons, as they see an opportunity for upward mobility in their careers. The scene sets up some of the conflicts we'll see in future episodes, but even within this episode, we see Gary and Claude's competitive nature on display.
The main plot of the episode kicks into high gear when Gary and Claude bring the baby to a party, inviting three other demons to change its diaper. The first two demons do their job without incident, but the last demon is a hobo demon. Unsurprisingly, he's not the most trustworthy individual, and he claims that he changed the baby's diaper, but he never actually did. This leads to some comedic hijinks as Gary and Claude frantically search for someone else to change the baby's diaper before it's too late.
One aspect of Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell that sets it apart from other comedies is the show's use of practical effects. In this episode, we see some gory makeup effects as demons eat worms or are beaten by Satan, which adds a level of physical comedy that's rare in modern television.
As the episode draws to a close, we see Gary and Claude finally find someone to change the baby's diaper. Spoiler alert: things don't go smoothly. One of the demons they recruit is missing his hands, which makes changing a diaper a bit challenging. Nonetheless, the job gets done, and Gary and Claude breathe a sigh of relief.
One of the funniest moments of the episode comes in the last few minutes. Gary is holding the baby up in triumph, but as the camera zooms in on his face, we see vomit streaming down his chin. The show is not afraid to be gross or offensive, but it does so in a way that feels fitting for its twisted setting.
In conclusion, Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell is a unique comedy series that's not for everyone, but for those who enjoy dark humor and aren't easily offended, it's a gem. Season 3 episode 3, Three Demons and a Demon Baby, is a solid example of the show's humor and style, with some great moments of physical comedy and clever dialogue.
