As Liza navigates life as a newly single woman in her forties, Younger Season 7 Episode 3 "FKA Millennial" finds her grappling with some existential questions: Who is she without Charles, and what is Millennial without her?
The episode opens with Kelsey attempting to revamp the Millennial imprint by launching a new label called "Mandate," which will feature books written exclusively by women. But without Liza as her right-hand woman, Kelsey struggles to make important decisions and navigate tricky situations with authors. Meanwhile, Liza finds herself searching for a new sense of purpose and direction. She's been so focused on her relationship with Charles that she hasn't stopped to consider what she wants out of life in the long term.
Enter Redmond, a charismatic literary agent with a passion for pop culture and a penchant for making big deals. Liza attends a book launch party with Kelsey, and she and Redmond hit it off immediately, bonding over their shared love of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Redmond sees potential in Liza as a literary agent and offers to mentor her, encouraging her to think outside the box and take chances.
While Liza is excited about this new opportunity, Kelsey is less than thrilled. She's worried that Redmond's flashy, high-risk approach could alienate Millennial's existing authors and damage the imprint's reputation. Liza tries to reassure Kelsey that she's not abandoning her or Millennial, but Kelsey isn't convinced.
The tension between the two friends comes to a head at a meeting with a prospective author, a brilliant but demanding writer named Olivia. Kelsey is determined to woo Olivia for Mandate, but Redmond has other ideas. He suggests that Liza offer Olivia a book deal with Millennial, promising to work with her closely and help her craft the best possible manuscript. The pitch works, and Olivia signs with Millennial.
But Kelsey feels betrayed, and accuses Liza of going behind her back. Liza insists that she had no intention of hurting Kelsey or undermining Mandate, but Kelsey is skeptical. She's already feeling overwhelmed by the demands of her new label, and now she's worried that Liza's new partnership with Redmond will cause even more problems.
As the episode draws to a close, Liza and Kelsey have a heart-to-heart in which Liza apologizes for any hurt she's caused. She explains that she's still figuring out what she wants out of life, but that she's committed to supporting Kelsey and helping Millennial succeed. Kelsey forgives her friend, and the two agree to move forward together.
"FKA Millennial" is a thought-provoking episode about personal and professional growth. Liza and Kelsey are both at turning points in their lives, and they're struggling to figure out what comes next. While Liza's new partnership with Redmond may cause some tension between the friends, it ultimately opens up new opportunities for both of them. As always, Younger delivers a smart, funny, and relatable episode that will leave viewers excited to see where the story goes next.
