Joe Goldberg is back with season 2's third episode. This episode is titled What Are Friends For? and it many twists and turns in store for fans.
Joe Goldberg tries to keep his new identity, but it's never easy to run from the past. He finds himself swept back into old habits when he becomes the target of a group of adolescent bullies. As he tries to escape them, he meets the younger sister of Love Quinn, named Ellie, who seems to have many troubles of her own.
Ellie is being exploited by her stepfather, Henderson, who is a famous DJ. Though he appears to be a good guy in public, Joe uncovers that he secretly films girls when he has parties. Joe becomes Ellie's protector and decides to do everything in his power to get Henderson to stop. Meanwhile, he also discovers that Ellie is friends with a girl who disappeared a year ago. Joe starts to investigate and realises that there are dark secrets that have been kept hidden for too long.
As Joe tries to keep his attention on the case, he is also trying to navigate his relationship with Love. He is still hiding his identity, and he is determined to make sure she doesn't find out. However, he has trouble keeping his past hidden when he doesn't know everything about Love either. The two of them have unexpected encounters that keep Joe on his toes regarding his relationship.
Fortune is not on Joe's side either, as he becomes the suspect in the case of Henderson’s disappearance. He tries to find the real killer to prove his innocence and prevent himself from getting exposed. All the while, he is struggling to keep his identity safe from Love, and it seems like his past may catch up with him.
It's apparent that this season is going to be even more intense than the previous one, with more characters and plotlines to follow. This episode keeps the audience on the edge of their seats, as they try to piece together the mystery surrounding Henderson’s disappearance and the secrets that Ellie knows about.
Overall, What Are Friends For? is filled with many twists and turns that are sure to have viewers glued to their screens. Joe continues to be a flawed protagonist who seems to struggle between his desire to do right and his love for Love. The various plotlines weave together nicely while keeping the audience in a constant state of suspense.
