You Me Her is an American comedy-drama television series that premiered on Audience Network in the United States. The show revolves around the relationship between a married couple, Jack and Emma, who decides to explore polyamory with another woman named Izzy.
Episode one of season one titled Cigarettes and Funions and Crap introduces the audience to the lead characters, Jack and Emma, as they navigate their mundane, uninspiring life in Portland, Oregon. Emma (Rachel Blanchard) is a stay-at-home wife, and Jack (Greg Poehler) is a struggling writer, who is in a creative rut.
One day, Jack visits a rundown convenience store to buy cigarettes and run into a young college student named Izzy (Priscilla Faia). Later that night, Jack meets up with Izzy, and they end up having sex. The encounter leaves Jack feeling ashamed and guilty, seeing as he is a married man. However, the incident makes him feel alive and gives him an idea for a new book.
The following day, Jack is supposed to take Emma on a romantic date, but she cancels, feeling miserable. Jack, who is still reeling from his encounter with Izzy, confides in his best friend, who suggests that he sees a therapist. Jack is initially hesitant but decides to give it a shot.
At the therapist's office, Jack confesses that he is unhappy and unfulfilled in his marriage. His therapist suggests trying new things to spark the passion in his relationship. Jack later shares this with Emma, who is initially resistant but eventually agrees to try new things. They plan to go to a strip club together but cancel at the last minute when they realize that they are not comfortable with it.
Meanwhile, Izzy contacts Jack and tells him that she's interested in seeing him again. Jack is still torn about what to do. He's not sure if he wants to pursue a relationship with Izzy or take the therapist's advice and try to rekindle his marriage.
As the episode comes to an end, Jack drives to the convenience store to see Izzy, but Emma shows up there first, looking for him. She and Izzy cross paths, and a tense, awkward exchange follows.
