- March 13, 2014
Blondie's, Little Place, Neighbours is the thirteenth episode of the first season of the Canadian food show You Gotta Eat Here. The episode, hosted by John Catucci, features three different restaurants in three distinct Canadian locations.
The first restaurant is called Blondie's in Toronto, Ontario. Blondie's is a beloved neighborhood diner that's been serving up classic comfort food for over 60 years. The menu is extensive, featuring everything from burgers and fries to homemade soups and meatloaf. John meets with the owner, Linda, who tells him about the history of Blondie's and why it's such a special place in the community. John gets to try the famous Blondie's burger, which he declares to be one of the best he's ever had.
The second restaurant is called Little Place, located in Kelowna, British Columbia. Little Place is a small, cozy restaurant that focuses on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a changing menu that reflects the seasons. John meets with the owner, Ryan, who is a former Olympic athlete and self-taught chef. Ryan takes John on a tour of the nearby farms where he sources his ingredients, and then back to the restaurant to cook up some of his signature dishes. John tries the beet-cured salmon and the pork belly, both of which he raves about.
The third and final restaurant is called Neighbours, located in Oshawa, Ontario. Neighbours is a family-owned Lebanese restaurant that's been in business for over 30 years. John meets with the owner, Tony, and his sons, who run the restaurant together. They show John how they make their famous pita bread from scratch, and then serve up a feast of Lebanese specialties like shawarma, hummus, and tabbouleh. John declares the food to be some of the best he's ever had, and loves the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant.
Throughout the episode, John provides his trademark humor and enthusiasm, sharing his love of good food and the people who make it. He also learns about the unique stories behind each restaurant and the passionate people who run them. Blondie's, Little Place, Neighbours is a feel-good episode that celebrates the power of food to bring people together and create community.
