The episode begins with Nate and his classmates excitedly preparing for their first day of third grade. They're disappointed to learn that their previous teacher, Mr. Kogetsu, has been replaced by Mr. Nyanpachi, a cat-like yo-kai with a love for puns. Mr. Nyanpachi is immediately popular with the students, who appreciate his goofy sense of humor and laid-back approach to teaching.
However, strange things begin to happen in the classroom - students start turning into mannequins at random intervals. It's soon revealed that a yo-kai named Monomannequin is responsible for the transformations. Monomannequin is obsessed with creating the perfect display, and sees the students as his personal mannequins to pose and position as he sees fit.
Nate and his friends quickly realize that they need to defeat Monomannequin in order to free their classmates and resume their normal school day. They locate the yo-kai and engage in a battle, culminating in Nate using his Yo-kai Watch to summon his own yo-kai friends. Ultimately, they're able to defeat Monomannequin and return the students to their normal states.
Following the battle, Mr. Nyanpachi explains that he's familiar with yo-kai and offers to help Nate and his friends on their quest to befriend and battle them. He introduces them to another yo-kai, Hanahojin, who helps students pass tests by giving them lucky flowers. Hanahojin quickly becomes popular among the students, but soon reveals his true nature: he's actually a yo-kai that feeds off of the students' stress and anxiety about exams.
