In the fourth season of X-Men: The Animated Series, episode 8 titled "Sanctuary (Part 1 of 2)" the X-Men find themselves in a precarious situation as their enemies join forces to prevent the advent of the mutant homeland known as Genosha. The episode opens with Professor X and Magneto setting up a meeting with Genosha's ruler, Cameron Hodge. Despite Magneto's initial reluctance to trust Hodge, the two eventually agree to work together to make Genosha a safe haven for mutants.
Meanwhile, the X-Men have received a distress signal from Rogue, who is trapped on a transport ship, taking her and several other mutants to be sold as slaves in the slave markets of Genosha. Gambit, Wolverine, and Storm decide to sneak into Genosha to rescue Rogue and the other mutants. However, they quickly discover that Genosha is a mutant-hating society, and anyone with mutant powers is hunted and subjected to horrific experiments. They also uncover the true nature of Hodge's plans for Genosha: to use mutants as slave labor to help build a new, more powerful weapon.
As the X-Men attempt to rescue Rogue and the other mutants, they also come face-to-face with the Friends of Humanity, a group of anti-mutant activists who have been plaguing the X-Men for some time. At the same time, Magneto and Professor X are captured by the Genosha government and imprisoned.
The stage is now set for a showdown between the X-Men, their enemies, and the ruthless rulers of Genosha. Will the X-Men succeed in rescuing Rogue and the other mutants and fighting back against the oppressive regime? Will Magneto and Professor X be able to put their differences aside and work together to shape the future of mutant-kind? To find out, viewers will have to tune in to the second half of "Sanctuary" in season 4 episode 9.
