Ep 8. Time Fugitives (Part 2 or 2)

The episode Time Fugitives (Part 2 of 2) from season 2 of X-Men: The Animated Series continues the storyline of Bishop, a mutant from a dystopian future who has traveled back in time to prevent a catastrophe that could lead to the extinction of all mutants. In the previous episode, Bishop had warned the X-Men about a plague that would ravage the world and ultimately give rise to the deadly Sentinels that hunt down mutants in his time. He also revealed that the mastermind behind this scheme was a mutant named Apocalypse, who had time-traveled to the present day.

In this episode, the X-Men must stop Apocalypse from carrying out his plan of releasing the virus that will cause the plague. While Wolverine and Bishop track down Apocalypse in the present, Gambit and Rogue head to the future to try to find a way to stop the plague from occurring altogether. They meet a group of mutants called the ‘Sewer Rats’ (made up of such mutants as Caliban, and Michael Morbius) who give them a glimpse of the dystopian future Bishop came from. The Sewer Rats reveal that the plague has already broken out, and the world is now controlled by the Sentinels, who hunt down all mutants, often by executing them on the spot.

Gambit and Rogue are horrified at the fate of their fellow mutants and are determined to find a way to change the timeline. They break into a laboratory in the future where they find a cure for the virus, but they are interrupted by the arrival of Sentinels. Gambit uses his powers to create a distraction, and they escape with the cure. Meanwhile, in the present, Wolverine and Bishop confront Apocalypse in a deadly showdown. Apocalypse has already released the virus, and he taunts the X-Men with the knowledge that they cannot stop him from ultimately creating his desired future.

Despite the odds, the X-Men manage to defeat Apocalypse, and Bishop is able to travel back to his time with the knowledge that the virus and Apocalypse's plans have been thwarted. However, he is shocked to find that the future has changed significantly. While the Sentinels still exist, they are no longer the ruling power, and mutants are no longer hunted as they were before. Bishop realizes that his actions in the past have created a wholly new timeline and that the dystopian future he came from no longer exists.

Time Fugitives (Part 2 of 2) is an action-packed episode that features some of the most iconic X-Men characters fighting against an evil that threatens to wipe out all mutants. There are some great fight scenes, including a showdown between Wolverine and Apocalypse, and there's a sense of urgency as the X-Men rush to stop the virus from spreading. While there are some bleak moments (especially in the future timeline), the episode ultimately offers a hopeful message about the ability to alter destiny and to make new outcomes. The dynamic animation and engaging storyline in X-Men: The Animated Series make this an excellent episode for fans of the series or anyone who loves superhero shows filled with thrilling action and suspense.
