Xena: Warrior Princess is a fantasy adventure series set in ancient Greece, following the titular warrior princess Xena as she battles evil and protects the innocent.
In season 3 episode 2, titled "Been There, Done That", Xena and her friend Gabrielle find themselves trapped in a time loop after a peaceful morning in a small village is interrupted by an assassination attempt on the town's leader.
As they investigate the assassination attempt, Xena discovers that the loop is caused by a vengeful spirit who seeks to punish the town for a past misdeed. Xena and Gabrielle must work together to break the loop and prevent the assassination from happening before it's too late.
As the time loop continues, Xena and Gabrielle become increasingly frustrated as they realize they are reliving the same day over and over again. They try various strategies to break the loop – from attempting to leave the village to reliving the day in different ways – but nothing seems to work.
Along the way, Xena and Gabrielle interact with various townspeople, including a young couple planning their wedding, a paranoid shopkeeper, and a group of drunks who keep causing trouble in the town square. With each iteration of the day, they begin to anticipate these interactions and try to change their outcomes.
As the day repeats itself, Xena becomes more determined to uncover the cause of the time loop and put a stop to it. She discovers that the vengeful spirit is the ghost of a woman who was wrongfully accused of being a witch and burned at the stake by the townspeople many years ago. The spirit seeks revenge by causing the town to relive the same day over and over again, as punishment for their past injustice.
Xena realizes that the only way to break the loop is to prevent the assassination of the town's leader, which is the trigger for the time loop to repeat. She and Gabrielle work together to protect the leader and prevent the assassination, all while dealing with the various obstacles and pitfalls that come with living the same day over and over again.
"Been There, Done That" is a fun and creative episode of Xena: Warrior Princess, showcasing the series' ability to mix humor and action in a unique way. The time loop premise allows for plenty of comedic moments, as Xena and Gabrielle try increasingly absurd ways to break the loop. At the same time, there is a serious underlying message about the consequences of past injustices and the need for redemption. Overall, it's a standout episode in a series filled with memorable adventures.
