Watch WWE: WRESTLEMANIA, XXIX
- 2013
- 1 Season
On April 7, 2013, the WWE put on their 29th annual Wrestlemania event at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The event featured a stacked card with many of the WWE's top superstars, promising an exciting night of entertainment for both hardcore and casual wrestling fans alike.
The main event of the evening was a WWE Championship match between John Cena and The Rock. The two had battled at the previous year's Wrestlemania, with The Rock emerging victorious. This time, Cena came into the match looking for redemption and hoping to reclaim the championship that had eluded him for over a year.
Other notable matches on the card included The Undertaker facing off against CM Punk, Triple H battling Brock Lesnar in a No Holds Barred match, and Alberto Del Rio defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Jack Swagger.
The Undertaker vs. CM Punk match was one of the highlights of the show. CM Punk had been on a hot streak leading up to Wrestlemania, and many fans believed that he had what it took to finally end The Undertaker's legendary undefeated streak at the event. The two put on an incredible match, with plenty of back-and-forth action and near falls. In the end, however, The Undertaker emerged victorious, extending his streak to 21-0.
The Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar match was also a major draw for fans. The two had faced off at the previous year's Wrestlemania in a brutal encounter that saw Lesnar emerge victorious. This time, Triple H was looking for revenge, and the No Holds Barred stipulation meant that anything could happen. The two put on a bloody, intense match that had the crowd on the edge of their seats. In the end, Triple H picked up the victory.
The World Heavyweight Championship match between Del Rio and Swagger was a solid match, but not quite as memorable as some of the other bouts on the card. Del Rio managed to retain his title, but the real story of the match was Zeb Colter's interference. Colter, Swagger's manager, had been cutting anti-immigrant promos in the weeks leading up to the event, which had drawn the ire of many fans. His interference in the match only fueled their anger, and the crowd let him know it with a chorus of boos.
In addition to the high-stakes matches, there were also a number of celebrity cameos and musical performances throughout the night. Diddy performed a medley of his hits during Triple H's entrance, while Machine Gun Kelly and Flo Rida provided the soundtracks for other matches. Meanwhile, NFL legend Joe Namath made a guest appearance, delivering a coin toss before the Undertaker vs. CM Punk match.
Overall, Wrestlemania XXIX was a solid event that featured a number of exciting matches and moments. While it might not have been the most memorable Wrestlemania in history, it was certainly an entertaining night for fans of the WWE.
