Wrap Battle is a holiday-themed competition show that aired on Freeform in 2019. The format of the show involved nine contestants, all of whom were skilled gift-wrappers, competing to become the ultimate wrapping champion. Each episode saw the contestants take on a series of themed challenges that tested their creativity, ingenuity and speed.
The show was hosted by Sheryl Underwood, who kept things lively with her humor and energy, and was judged by Carson Kressley and Wanda Wen, both of whom are experts in the world of gift-wrapping. They offered their insights and critiques on the contestants' work, and ultimately decided who would be eliminated each week.
The contestants themselves were a diverse group, made up of people from all walks of life who shared a passion for wrapping. Among them were Ayla Rae Neal, a 17-year-old from Chicago who had been wrapping gifts since she was a young child; Kassidy Geraldine, a 23-year-old from California who had turned her love of wrapping into a full-time profession; and Jim Colucci, a 74-year-old from New York who was the oldest contestant and had been wrapping gifts for over 60 years.
In the first episode, the contestants were tasked with creating a "winter wonderland" scene using only wrapping paper, ribbons, and other materials. This gave them the chance to show off their creativity and their ability to think outside the box. Some contestants went for traditional snowscapes or scenes featuring Christmas trees, while others took a more abstract approach with designs like a snowy cityscape or a polar bear made out of paper.
Other challenges included wrapping gifts in under a minute, creating themed gift sets based on things like travel or sports, and transforming non-traditional materials like car parts or pool floats into wrapping paper. Each challenge was designed to push the contestants to their limits and force them to come up with unique solutions to difficult problems.
Throughout the show, the contestants formed bonds and friendships despite the competitive nature of the competition. They cheered each other on, offered advice and support, and commiserated over the challenges they faced. There were moments of tension and drama, of course, as contestants who struggled with certain challenges found themselves facing elimination. But overall, the mood of the show was light and fun, with plenty of holiday cheer to go around.
The finale of Wrap Battle saw the remaining contestants facing off in a series of challenges that tested their skills and creativity one last time. Ultimately, one contestant was crowned the winner and received a grand prize of $50,000. But even those who didn't win walked away from the experience with new skills, new friends, and a renewed appreciation for the art of gift-wrapping.
Overall, Wrap Battle was a fun and entertaining show that celebrated the joys of gift-giving and the skill and artistry of gift-wrapping. It showcased the talents of a diverse group of individuals and offered a unique perspective on the holiday season. Whether you're a gift-wrapping expert or a novice, this show is sure to leave you feeling inspired and festive.
